Students Get a Look at a Police Robot

Students at Wolff Elementary School got an up-close look at the robot used by the Henderson SWAT team on Thursday.

Henderson Police showed off the robot to teacher Trisha Christensen's fifth-grade class. The class has spent the whole year studying robots. Thursday's demonstration gave them a chance to see how a robot is used in everyday situations.

"It is really exciting for the kids and the parents who helped set this up. It really culminates the activity and helps them see what we are doing can be applied in the real world," said teacher Trisha Christensen.

"The technology I learned is much more than we can think of it to be, it is much more than power in our computer, it lets you play our favorite video game. It can save a life or take a life," added fifth-grader Carlos Gonzalez.

The department bought the robot in December 2010 through a grant from the Justice Department.
