Vehicle fire erupts inside McCarran Airport garage; no injuries reported

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A vehicle caught fire in the terminal 3 parking garage at McCarran International Airport on Saturday.

According to officials, the heat from the fire affected and spread to a number of other cars in the terminal parking garage.

The fire was put out by Clark County Fire Department. No injuries were reported. The cause is not yet known.

Sandy Hook lawsuit could force Remington to open books

(AP) — A recent ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court has upended a longstanding legal roadblock that has given the gun industry far-reaching immunity from lawsuits in the aftermath of mass killings.

The court this week allowed families of victims of the 2012 Sandy Hook school massacre to sue the maker of the AR-15 used in the attack. The case against Remington will now proceed in the Connecticut courts.

Arizona man extradited to Nevada in 1979 killing of woman

RENO, Nev. (AP) — An Arizona man was extradited to Nevada on Friday after a cold-case investigation led to his arrest in the 1979 killing of a woman last seen in California.

The Nevada Attorney General’s Office and the Washoe County Sheriff’s Office said 73-year-old Charles Gary Sullivan was arrested in Arizona’s Yavapai County in the killing of 21-year-old Julia Woodward.

A statement announcing the arrest said the investigation included DNA analysis of evidence. Details weren’t released.

Woodward’s body was found March 25, 1979 buried in a remote area north of Reno. She was last seen Feb. 1, 1979 at the San Francisco airport while headed for Reno.

Sullivan remained jailed Saturday pending a Tuesday arraignment on a murder charge. It wasn’t clear whether he has an attorney who could comment on the allegation... Read More

Elderly victim dies after DUI crash in North Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — North Las Vegas Police say an elderly victim is dead after a two-vehicle DUI crash. It happened around 4:30 a.m. Saturday in the area of North Aliante Parkway, just north of Elkhorn Road.

There is not very much information on the crash at this point, but NLV Police tell 8 News Now that the elderly victim was leaving a senior community when the incident happened.

Police say there was an arrest made, and impairment was a factor in the crash. NLV PD is still investigating.

NFL says 11 teams have signed up for Kaepernick’s audition

NEW YORK (AP) — The NFL said Thursday that 11 teams have committed to attending Colin Kaepernick’s workout in Atlanta this weekend and that more teams are expected to attend the former NFL quarterback’s audition.

The league also announced that two former NFL head coaches will be in attendance: Hue Jackson, who will lead the drills, and Joe Philbin.

The NFL said it will send video of the workout and interview to all 32 of its teams, including head coaches and general managers.

Alleged gunman, 4 others charged in New Jersey football game shooting

(AP) — Authorities have charged five men, including the alleged gunman, in connection with a shooting at a New Jersey high school football game that they said Saturday was the result of “petty vengeance.” Three people were wounded, including two seriously.

The shooting at a packed Friday night playoff game between the Camden Panthers and the Pleasantville Greyhounds, sent fans and players frantically running for safety.

A 10-year-old boy was wounded and remained in critical condition Saturday, while a 27-year-old man was in stable condition and will be undergoing surgery. A 15-year-old boy was also was treated for a graze wound. The victims’ names have not been released... Read More

Do you know what to recycle? A reminder on America Recycles Day

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Despite most Americans willingness to recycle, some still do not know what should and should not be tossed into the recycling bin. Residents in Las Vegas are ‘wish-cycling’ several items that should not be in a curbside recycling bin; this includes propane tanks, electronics, clothing and bowling balls.

On average, 30% of consumers put unrecyclable material in their curbside bins, according to Republic Services.

Republic Services in North Las Vegas is hoping to change that number by making local residents aware of the dos and donts of recycling on America Recycles Day.
