Crews near containment of wildfire on peak east of Lake Mead

LAKE MEAD NATIONAL RECREATION AREA, Nev. (AP) — Firefighters say they’ve mostly contained a wildfire burning in short grass and brush on a rugged mountain east of Lake Mead.

Fire officials report they expect to have the Bonelli Peak fire fully contained by late Monday.

The National Park Service and federal Bureau of Land Management say no injuries are reported, no structures are threatened and area roads remain open.

Officials say nearly 7 square miles (18 square kilometers) burned after lightning sparked the fire late Wednesday at the edge of the Lake Mead National Recreation Area in Nevada.

LAS VEGAS ( KLAS ) – Following up on the widening of the main road between Las Vegas and Pahrump.

Friday we talked about the end of dynamite blasting on highway 160 around the town of Mountain Springs, with NDOT reserving the right to blast again depending on conditions in the area as the project moves forward.

Here’s
a look at some of the other features once the $58.6
million project is done in the fall of next year.

Metro officer, driver injured in crash

A Las Vegas Metro Police officer and another driver were injured in an early-morning crash at Charleston and Lamb, on the valley’s east side.

The marked patrol vehicle was traveling south on Lame with lights and sirens activated, responding to an emergency call, according to Metro Lt. David Gordon. The officer was struck at the intersection by a black Nissan Sentra, traveling east on Charleston.

The man driving the Nissan was taken to the hospital, complaining of pain. The patrol officer was taken to UMC. Both the officer and the driver are expected to recover.

The eastbound lanes of Charleston were closed at Lamb for several hours for the investigation... Read More
