LVFD investigates attempted arson at The Center in downtown Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas Fire and Rescue investigated an attempted arson at The Center, which is The Gay and Lesbian Community Center of Southern Nevada.

According to LVFD, someone set fire to a palm tree on the property.

The Center addressed the arson attempt with a post on Facebook:

Early this morning, an individual attempted to set fire to The Center. They were unsuccessful, and no damage was done to the building.

Metro arrests alleged suspect in deadly downtown shooting

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Metro Police arrested a man Tuesday for allegedly shooting and killing another man in downtown Las Vegas. Jerry Fitzgerald, 44, was arrested in the 1800 block of West Alexander Road.

According to Metro Police, on June 22, dispatch operators received a call about gunfire in the 900 block of Las Vegas Boulevard. At the same time, a patrol officer was in the area and heard the shots as well.

When officers arrived at the scene, they located a man on the
sidewalk suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The victim, identified by the family as Michael Johnson, was transported to UMC where he was pronounced dead.

Detectives learned Johnson and Fitzgerald had got into an argument inside a nearby business. When they left, they fired their guns at each other;Johnson was killed.

Fitzgerald was arrested for his death. His preliminary hearing is set for July 10... Read More

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Vegas Golden Knights General Manager George McPhee talked with the media Thursday about the recent decision to trade forward Erik Haula.

McPhee announced Wednesday night the team has acquired forward Nicholas Roy and a conditional fifth round pick in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft from the Carolina Hurricanes in exchange for Haula.

Over the course of two seasons with the Golden Knights, Haula appeared in 91 games after being selected by the team during the 2017 NHL Expansion Draft from the Minnesota Wild.

MUST SEE: Lenticular cloud over Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Las Vegas valley residents got a beautiful sunset and cloud show Wednesday night. A large lenticular cloud formed in the sky.

The cloud was captured in a time-lapse video by KLAS-TV so we could share it with out viewers. Lenticular clouds form in the troposphere, typically in perpendicular alignment to the wind direction.
