Groundbreaking Thursday for Henderson road projects

Groundbreaking Thursday for Henderson road projects

Three of the busiest roads in Henderson will soon be getting a makeover thanks to the fuel tax increase voted in by the Clark County Commission last year.

A groundbreaking is set for Thursday for improvements along Eastern Avenue, Warm Springs Road and Whitney Ranch Drive.

The $4.6 million projects will improve traffic flow by creating and restriping bicycle lanes, repaving the roads and making sidewalk ramps.

The money for the projects is coming from the county’s Fuel Revenue Indexing. It will create about 60 jobs. The projects are expected to be finished by the end of next year.

Las Vegas post office reopens after Port-a-Potty fire

LAS VEGAS (AP) -- A Las Vegas post office is reopening two weeks after a two-alarm fire that started in a rooftop Port-a-Potty damaged the building.

Postal officials say the retail portion of the post office, located at 455 E. Pebble, was scheduled to reopen on Saturday. Customers have been using a mobile unit parked at the facility to buy stamps and conduct other business.

Crews had to clean up water and human waste left over after firefighters tried to contain the blaze on July 6. Nobody was injured and no mail was burned.

The portable toilet was on the roof while construction crews worked there. It's unclear exactly how the fire started.

Postal service spokesman David Rupert said the total cost of the damage has not yet been tabulated.
