Resident: Shaking collapsed chimney, fireplace

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Eugene Johnson is cleaning up his home after the 7.1 magnitude earthquake brought down his brick chimney and fireplace.

The 61-year-old Trona resident said Saturday that he and his wife were in bed watching TV Friday night when the quake started.

They rushed into their living room to hold onto their fish tank and big-screen TV and watched the fireplace collapse.

Dishes crashed out of cabinets, boxes of macaroni fell to the floor and spilled everywhere, and the refrigerator careened halfway across the kitchen.

Officials: Searches find nobody in blast-damaged Nevada dorm

RENO, Nev. (AP) — Authorities say thorough searches of a University of Nevada, Reno, dormitory building that was heavily damaged by an explosion found nobody inside and all students are accounted for.

NBA deems Thomas & Mack, Cox Pavilion safe following earthquake

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The NBA assured Summer League Fans that games will continue as planned on July 6 and moving forward.

This comes after the New Orleans Pelicans – New York Knicks game was stopped due to a 7.1 California earthquake that was felt across the Las Vegas valley.

After thorough structural surveys were completed this morning, Thomas & Mack and Cox have both been deemed safe to open.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Latest on Southern California’s strongest earthquake in 20 years (all times local):

9:30 a.m.

A fire official says there were no fatalities or major injuries in Ridgecrest after the 7.1 magnitudes earthquake on Friday night.

Kern County Fire Chief David Witt also said Saturday there were no major building collapses but some structures could be weakened from the back-to-back quakes.

Friday’s quake occurred a day after a magnitude 6.4 quake hit in the same area of the Mojave Desert about 150 miles from Los Angeles.

Witt says there were some power outages and minor gas and water leaks in Ridgecrest, but no known damage outside the area... Read More

Earthquake shuts down NBA Summer League marquee matchup

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The NBA Summer League didn’t get through its first day before it was interrupted by Friday’s earthquakes.

Zion Williamson and RJ Barrett, the No. 1 and No. 3 picks in the NBA draft, in their much anticipated matchup at the Thomas & Mack Center, had their game suspended. Williamson had left the game after banging knees with another player, and the quake stopped the action for good.

Williamson, playing for the New Orleans Pelicans, scored 11 points including four dunks. Barrett, for the New York Knicks, had 10 points.
