Raiders watch party set for Monday

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — We’re less than a week away from the start of the Raiders football season, and you’re invited to the team’s official watch party for the season opener. The Raiders announced the free watch party is taking place inside The LINQ Hotel + Experience and some surrounding areas Monday night.

The Silver and Black are taking on the Denver Broncos on ESPN’s Monday Night Football. Pregame activities start at 6 pm ahead of the 7:20 pm kickoff.

Local library to host Drag Queen Story Hour

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A new event aimed at encouraging children to read isn’t sitting well with some parents. Henderson libraries is hosting “A Drag Queen Storytime” throughout the summer.

Some
find it fun, and others want it shut down.

Diversity
Divas Story Hour is part of Green Valley Library’s mission to celebrate
diversity and encourage inclusion from all walks of life. Those with the library
say they know the importance of making their space welcoming to all. Part of
that goal includes providing free access to materials, programs, and services
for all of our diverse community.

Last month they held their first drag queen story time at the Paseo Verde Library. A second event is also planned for this Saturday at the Green Valley Library. The unique program has been met with polarizing reactions from local families... Read More

Man arrested for killing, putting woman’s remains in 55-gallon drum goes before judge

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — What started as a missing person’s case, has turned into a gruesome murder. On Wednesday, Metro Police identified 38-year-old Chuck Chaiyakul as the man arrested in the disappearance, and now homicide of 39-year-old Jennifer Ratay.

The case first came to light Tuesday morning when someone called Metro Police to report that Ratay was missing. Fast-forward to that evening when Chaiyakul is arrested, and a 55-gallon container filled with human remains is found in his garage.

The home is located in the 5700 block of Garden Grove Avenue near Rainbow and Flamingo. The Clark County Coroner identified the remains as Jennifer Ratay. She died from multiple gunshot wounds in a homicidal manner, the coroner said.

Man charged for manufacturing machine guns without a license

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — 35-year-old Jayson Babbitt made an appearance in court Wednesday after being charged with engaging in the business of dealing in firearms without a license, illegal possession of a machine gun, and making a machine gun in violation of the National Firearms Act. Babbitt was charged by criminal complaint.

Allegations in the complaint say that between June and September of this year, Babbitt illegally manufactured AR-15 style fully automatic rifles and offered them for sale.

During a controlled purchase in July, Babbitt sold two AR-style machine guns for $4,200. Babbitt said the guns were made from a “jig” at his house. The guns did not have serial numbers and he showed a video of himself test-firing the weapons. The ATF tested the guns and confirmed they were machine guns... Read More

Border agents seize nearly $1 million worth of pot in South Texas

McALLEN, Texas (Border Report) ⁠— U.S. Border Patrol agents seized more than 1,200 pounds of marijuana worth almost $1 million during an arrest in Starr County, Texas, according to a news release.

Late Monday evening, Border Patrol agents assigned to the Special Operations Detachment working near Fronton observed several people carrying bundles of narcotics across the Rio Grande. As agents approached, the smugglers abandoned the bundles and ran off to Mexico. A search of the area resulted in the seizure of over 1,200 pounds of marijuana worth an estimated street value of $979,000.

Additionally, over the past three days, agents stopped five marijuana smuggling attempts resulting in the arrest of six narcotic smugglers and the seizure of over 930 pounds of marijuana, worth an estimated $745,000, Border Patrol officials reported.

Gang may be responsible for dismemberments in Juarez, police say

JUAREZ, Mexico (Border Report) — Mexican authorities are focusing on a criminal group known as “La Empresa” as they try to figure out who has murdered at least six men in the past two weeks and cut their bodies into pieces.

Police found the latest dismembered body early Wednesday on the streets of the working-class Lucio Blanco II neighborhood in southeast Juarez. Officials found a backpack and trash bags containing what one investigator described as “chopped arms and legs.”

This was the fourth set of dismembered human bodies Juarez police have found just in the past three days. In mid-August, police had arrested two men ages 23 and 18 and a woman who were allegedly transporting two dismembered bodies for disposal in the Valle del Bravo neighborhood, also in the southeast... SNUG BUT SAFE: Frogs get out of Dorian’s way by hiding in wind chimes

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Several frogs in Florida tried to put up their best defense against Hurricane Dorian by coming up with a snug hiding space. The video shows the frogs were discovered hiding out in the pipes of the wind chimes in Belle Isle, Florida.
