Henderson Police Looking for Bank Robbery Suspect

HENDERSON, Nev. -- Police are releasing surveillance photos of a man allegedly robbing a Chase Bank in hopes someone will recognize him.

Police say the man who is believed to be in his early 50's entered the bank at 1000 N. Green Valley Pkwy. on Oct. 15 around 1:30 p.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money.

The suspect is described as having brownish gray hair, about 6 feet tall and weighing around 180 pounds. He was wearing a blue shirt with while pinstripes and light colored jeans.

Anyone with information is asked to call Henderson Police at 267-4750, or to remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 385-5555.

LAS VEGAS -- Fewer people filed for unemployment benefits last week, but many people are still having a tough time coping with the recession. A new counseling center has opened to help anyone who's suffering.

Nevada's record unemployment has led more people into the arms of mental health counselors. But there are very few clinics that offer clinical services for free. The new one inside the Henderson University of Phoenix campus near US-95 and Auto Show Drive does.

The new counseling center will provide 8,400 appointments for free this year. Licensed counselors, along with graduate counseling students will man the center six days a week. This is a training and studying opportunity for them and a free service for the public.

Suicide rates and depression cases are up, and many blame unemployment. But one of the counselors says the recession has helped people get over their fears.

HENDERSON, Nev. -- A Las Vegas Metro police officer has been arrested for domestic violence. Officer Roberto Angulo was arrested by Henderson Police on Sunday.

Police say Angulo was charged with one count of domestic battery. Officer Angulo was booked into the Henderson Detention Center on Sunday morning, posted bail and was released the same day.

Metro says Officer Angulo has been with the department for five years and works out of the Downtown Area Command. He is currently on administrative leave pending further investigation.

LAS VEGAS -- Although Las Vegas residents may be working through some tough economic times, the city is ranking among the top for trick-or-treaters.

According to Zillow.com, Las Vegas is 9th in the nation when it comes to trick-or-treaters bringing home the most loot. The index represents cities that provide the most candy, with the least walking and safety risks.

The city in the number one spot was Seattle, Washington followed by San Francisco, California.

LAS VEGAS -- Consumers are starting to spend a little more. For the third straight month, retail sales are on the rise nationwide, and the trend is being seen in Las Vegas. Experts says there's still a long way to go in turning around the economy.

Shoppers spent more than $367 billion at retailers in September, marking the third straight month of increased sales. Jeremy Aguero with Applied Analysis says it's a step in the right direction.

"What it is, is a reflection of is that consumers are starting to spend again. They're starting to be a little more optimistic about the future and that's being reflected in their spending patterns," he said.

Sales increased only a small percentage from August, but we saw a more than 7-percent increase from September of last year. Auto sales continue to drive the numbers, fueled by new 2011 models making their way to dealerships.

HENDERSON, Nev. -- In an effort to keep trick or treaters say, the city of Henderson is suggesting that they should only trick or treat from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Halloween.

City officials say motorists and pedestrians need to use special caution that weekend. They are also offering some safety tips.

Use makeup instead of masks so your child's vision isn't blocked.
Make sure costumes are not too long to prevent your child from tripping.
Attach reflector strips to costumes and bags, and make sure your trick-or-treaters carry glow sticks and flashlights.
Remind your children not to eat any treats until they've come home.
Check all treats at home and dispose of anything that is no longer sealed or not in factory wrapping.
Report any suspicious or criminal activities to the police department

LAS VEGAS -- Thousands of voters are expected to cast their ballot during in the weeks prior to the election.

Early voting begins on Saturday, Oct. 16 and lasts until Friday, Oct. 29. There are dozens of locations around the Las Vegas valley where you can vote at your convenience.
