World Music Guitarist to Play at Henderson Pavilion

An award-winning guitarist is returning to Henderson Friday, this time to play at the Henderson Pavilion.

Jesse Cook will be playing music from his new album “The Blue Guitar Sessions” and other material with his distinctive rumba-flamenco style. The stop is part of a 60-city tour in support of his new album.

The performance starts at 8 p.m. and tickets are $10.

Cook participated in the grand opening of the pavilion’s sister venue, the Henderson Events Plaza, in 2006.

Theater Company Looking for Kids for New Production of Red Riding Hood

 

The Missoula Children's Theatre is hosting a open casting call for its new production of "Red Riding Hood" in Henderson.

The theatre group is looking for talented kids ages 5 to 18. There will be a chance for the kids to try out for a starring role in the production.

The show is a retelling of the classic fairy tale with a new look at the Big Bad Wolf and Red Riding Hood herself.

There will be two casting calls and two performances of the play.

Week 1

  • Henderson Convention Center, 200 Water Street
  • Auditions: Monday, April 8, 4 to 6 p.m. Registration is 3 to 4 p.m.
  • Rehearsals: Tuesday through Friday, April 9 through 12, 4 to 8 p.m.
  • Scheduled Performances: Saturday, April 13 at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m.

Gospel Fest Wraps Up This Weekend

This weekend is the last weekend for Gospel Fest at the Henderson Pavilion.

The festival is sponsored by KCEP Power 88.1 FM and is a celebration of music, history and culture. Admission to the festival is free.

Besides local gospel singers and choirs, there is also a family fun zone, food vendors and retailers.  

Gates open at 5 p.m. Friday and the concert starts at 6 p.m. The gates open at 11 a.m. Saturday and the entertainment starts at noon. Activities Saturday include a fashion show set for 4:30 p.m.

This is the first year that the festival has been expanded for two weekends.

Children's Art Gallery Debuts Inside Henderson Hospital

 

Henderson officials are working with a local hospital to feature a display of children’s art designed to brighten the spirits of patients.

The city of Henderson and St. Rose Dominican Hospitals-Siena Campus are calling the exhibit “Impressions at Siena.” It is located in the third floor lobby at 3001 St. Rose Pkwy., and is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The gallery’s first exhibit features 32 works of art created by students at B. Mahlon Brown Junior High School using charcoal, oil and soft pastels, and collage. A new display will replace this one after April 25.

The city of Henderson also hosts and curates the City Hall Art Gallery, 240 Water St.; Pinnacle Children’s Art Exhibit, 203 S. Water St., Suite 300; The Gallery at the Henderson Multigenerational Center, 250 S. Green Valley Pkwy.; and Gallery at the Garden inside the Hilton Garden Inn, 1340 W. Warm Springs. Rd.

Henderson Gospel Fest Expanded to 2 Weekends

 

A popular festival in Henderson is now being extended to two weekends in February.

The City of Henderson and KCEP Power 88.1 FM are presenting the 10th annual Gospel Fest at the Henderson Pavilion, 200 South Green Valley Parkway. The festival will run Friday, February 15 and Saturday, February 16, as well as Friday, February 22 and Saturday, February 23.

The festival coincides with Black History Month and offers a celebration of music, history and culture. Gates open at 5 p.m. on both Friday evenings and at 11 a.m. on both Saturday mornings. Admission is free.

The first weekend will feature the debut of “A Night of Soul” by Broadway in the Hood. It is a celebration of Detroit’s influence on popular music, featuring songs from great artists like Marvin Gaye, The Jackson Five and Diana Ross.

The symphony goes with a simple set after taking the summer off.

Liberty High School Student Honored at Thespian Festival

Liberty High School Student Honored at Thespian Festival

A local high school student was honored at one of the most prestigious theatre showcases in the world.

Liberty High School student Jason Kreitz was one of 12 students selected to perform in the National Individual Events at the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Nebraska in July.

Kreitz had to endure a week-long audition process which included 800 students from across the globe. He was asked to perform “Alive” from the musical “Jekyll and Hyde.”

The young Liberty High School student received a perfect score from a panel of six judges. Kretiz is under the direction of Liberty theatre director Sharon Chadwick.
