Groundbreaking Ceremony for FedEx Ground Distribution Center

Groundbreaking Ceremony for FedEx Ground Distribution Center

A groundbreaking ceremony was held Thursday for a new FedEx Ground distribution center under construction in Henderson.

The new facility is being built at St. Rose Parkway and Bruner Avenue, which is near the M Resort.

FedEx Ground specializes in delivery small packages around the country. It is one of 11 new hubs that have been added to the company's nationwide network over the past five years.

The distribution center will be finished in 15 to 16 months, bringing with it about 210 jobs.

"This is actually a major indicator, I think, showing that our economy is coming back," Henderson Mayor Andy Hafen said. "With this, I really think, it says hey 2008, 2009  is gone and we're looking forward to newer, bigger and brighter things in the city of Henderson."

It will be used to service the Salt Lake City and Denver areas. The volume of packages FedEx Ground handles every business day has doubled in the past 10 years.

Four Businesses Fail Alcohol Compliance Check

Four Businesses Fail Alcohol Compliance Check

Four Henderson businesses sold alcohol to minors last weekend in the police department’s latest sting operation.

Police officers conducted compliance checks at 78 convenience stores, grocery stores and liquor stores throughout the city of Henderson early Sunday. Of the 78 establishments, 74 did not sell alcohol to the underage person.

The businesses that failed were:

  • CVS, 1551 W. Sunset Road
  • Green Valley Grocery, 902 S. Boulder Highway
  • Lee’s Discount Liquor, 4427 E. Sunset Road
  • Whole Foods, 100 S. Green Valley Parkway

The clerks are subject to a citation for serving an underage person and face a maximum penalty of six months in jail and/or a $1,000 fine. The owners or managers of a business that fails a second or third time can also be issued a citation and could face the revocation of their business license. Businesses that fail an alcohol compliance check generally are rechecked at some time in the future.
