HENDERSON, Nev. -- Many grocery shoppers are finding out that the traditional Thanksgiving feast is costing more this year.

It is forcing some shoppers to look for bargains and be a little choosier. The days leading up to Thanksgiving are among the busiest in the grocery industry.  From celery and carrots to yams and potatoes, the staples of Thanksgiving are selling quickly but at a steeper price.

LAS VEGAS -- It's not too hard to find empty store fronts and closed businesses around the Las Vegas valley. However, there is one type of business that is not only surviving but actually thriving.

It is called eyebrow threading and seems to be the latest way to remove unwanted hair. One business owner told 8 News NOW that she just opened three months ago and is already looking to add three more shops.

"Everybody's like 'what is threading?' Threading is an ancient middle eastern art to removing unwanted hair. All with this cotton thread," explains Sandra Dayal, Bollywood Salon owner.

She didn't think her business would last through the recession. Luckily, she was wrong.

WASHINGTON -- A plane carrying former Sen. Ted Stevens and eight others crashed in remote southwest Alaska, killing the longtime Republican lawmaker and four other people, authorities said Tuesday.

Ex-NASA chief Sean O'Keefe and his teenage son were also aboard and survived the crash, according to a former NASA spokesman.

Stevens' family has been notified that the 86-year-old was among those killed in the crash Monday night, family spokesman Mitch Rose told The Associated Press.

Rescuers arrived on helicopter early Tuesday and were giving medical care to survivors, Alaska National Guard spokesman Maj. Guy Hayes said. He offered no additional details, except that there were potential fatalities.

Alaska officials reported that nine people were aboard the aircraft and that "it appears that there are five fatalities," NTSB spokesman Ted Lopatkiewicz told The Associated Press in Washington.
