Fundraiser Planned for Family of Young Man Killed in Crash

A fundraiser is planned for Saturday for the family of the young man killed in a hit-and-run accident Thursday evening.

According to Metro Police, at about 7 p.m., 19-year-old Angel Velasquez was riding a motorcycle near Sahara Avenue and Van Patten Street, when a Volkswagen ran into him. The driver of the car left the scene.

He was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Velasquez was a Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department Explorer, a program for young people interested in becoming law enforcement officers. He joined the Explorer team when he was 16 years old.

His fellow Explorers will be holding a car wash to raise money for funeral expenses. The car wash will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Brake Masters on Windmill Lane and Easter Avenue.

A bank account has been set up in his name at Wells Fargo #3771101486. Go to, lvmpdexplorers.com, for more information.
