Crash Forces The Salvation Army Thrift Store to Temporarily Close

Crash Forces The Salvation Army Thrift Store to Temporarily Close

The Salvation Army Thrift Store in Henderson is now closed after someone drove through the front of the building.

The crash happened Wednesday at the store at 360 N. Stephanie Street. The city building inspector looked at the damage and determined the store was not safe. The Salvation Army is working to repair the building as quickly as possible. The accident also means that 15 people are out of work until the repairs can be made.

The charity says the crash and repairs could not come at a more difficult time. Donations are down for the thrift stores. The money raised in the stores is directed towards The Salvation Army’s Adult Rehabilitation Program, which helps people recovering from drug, alcohol and gambling addiction. The store on Stephanie Street is one of the most lucrative that the charity operates in southern Nevada.

Goodwill Store Opens in Albertsons Grocery Store

Goodwill Store Opens in Albertsons Grocery Store

A first-of-its-kind Goodwill store opened Friday. The store is inside an Albertsons grocery store near Maryland Parkway and Silverado Ranch Boulevard.

The Goodwill Select Store is just 500 square feet, but it offers a variety of clothing and accessories that were donated to the charity. Goodwill of Southern Nevada says the partnership with Albertsons gives both organizations a chance to do more for the community.

“It goes back to helping the community, not only giving them great bargains, but helping to create jobs. Albertsons really shares an affinity with us for that mission. So, they wanted to do more,” Jessica Milazzo with Goodwill of Southern Nevada said.

If this new Goodwill Select Store does well, other Albertsons locations may soon jump on board. Many of the donation drop-off boxes for the charity are already set up outside Albertsons stores across the valley.
