Thousands Raised in Cupcake Fundraiser

Thousands Raised in Cupcake Fundraiser

In just three days thousands of cupcakes were sold and thousands of dollars were raised for a school in southern Nevada.

Freed's Bakery sold 3,012 cupcakes last week raising $8,265 for Whitney Elementary School.  A huge portion of the students at that school are homeless. They often rely on the school for basic needs like food and clothing. A recent report about it on CBS Evening News generated donations from around the country.  The cupcakes were sold at the bakery at Eastern Avenue and Silverado Ranch Boulevard Thursday through Saturday.

The bake sale got a boost through the bakery's Facebook page.

Take Time to "Love Your Lifeguard"

Take Time to "Love Your Lifeguard"

Henderson’s lifeguards play an important role in keeping the community safe. The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is recognizing these unsung heroes July 9 with Love Your Lifeguard Day.

Residents are invited to stop by during open swim hours at all City of Henderson pools. Regular daily admission ($1-$3 per person) applies.

For all ages, the event includes lifesaving demonstrations, information about classes and lifeguard training, and question-and-answer sessions with the City’s lifeguard team. For kids, the event features relay races, safety swims, and the chance to dress up like a lifeguard for a photo opportunity. For lifeguards, it’s the chance to get a little “love” for a job well done.

Golden Retriever Rescue Southern Nevada Helps Bella

Bella, 6, came into our lives as a foster dog on the day after Christmas 2009 but even on the short ride from the hospital to our home, I already knew she would be staying with us. Her physical condition on that day was just pitiful, but not her spirit.

Teacher Sky Dives into Carnival

A teacher from Harmon Elementary School will make a daring entrance into Friday night's PTA carnival.

Jim Dolan and three other friends will jump from a plane and land in a space just behind the school during the party. The carnival benefits the school and the Parent-Teacher Association. Dolan is the school's physical education teacher and a professional skydiver with more than 4,000 jumps under his belt. This is not the first time he's jumped at the event, he's been jumping and landing at the carnival for more than 10 years.

The carnival is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. but the jump is set for 6 p.m.
