Liberty HS Seniors to Appear on Katie Couric Show | Education & Schools

Liberty High School goes big time this week when two students appear Wednesday on The Katie Couric Show.
As a result of a fundraiser hosted by Liberty seniors Joseph Maurer and Ryan Popowcer for the Michael J. Fox Foundation, the two have been invited to appear on the show featuring Fox.
The boys’ plight caught the attention of a producer for the show after an article was published in The View on October 30.
The fundraiser raised nearly $2,000 and the boys had already raised $1,000 prior to the event at Sunrise Cafe on Eastern Avenue. Maurer and Popowcer have set a goal to raise $5,000 for the foundation.
The duo’s obsession with Fox started with a mutual love for his work on the television show Family Ties and movies from the 1980's. Popowcer became aware of Fox’s battle with Parkinson’s disease after realizing that he was taking fewer acting roles.
Nearly five million people live with Parkinson’s disease worldwide and 60,000 people contract the disease yearly. Fox’s foundation has raised nearly $300 million since its 2001 inception.
The show will air on Wednesday afternoon in Las Vegas at 2 p.m. on Channel 5.
