Silent film returns to big screen with live orchestra

Movie buffs will get a chance to see a silent-film era comedic masterpiece the way it was intended with a screening of Charlie Chaplin's "The Circus" at the Henderson Pavilion.

The screening will include live music from The Henderson Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Taras Krysa.  

The screening will be at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, June 7. "The Circus" will be proceeded by "Kid Auto Races at Venice" a six-minute short film, which is the first film to feature Chaplin's iconic character the Little Tramp.

"The Circus" premiered in 1928; however, for the 1969 re-release of the film Chaplin updated the soundtrack, which is the score the orchestra will be using.

Green Valley High Bringing "Mary Poppins" to the Stage

A southern Nevada high school will premiere the high school version of the hit Broadway musical, based on the hit movie, based on the popular books, Disney's "Mary Poppins" next year.

Music Theatre International and Disney Theatrical selected Green Valley High School as the premier production of "Mary Poppins," which coincides with the release of "Saving Mr. Banks," a movie based on the effort to bring the timeless classic to the big screen in 1964.

The Green Valley High School Performing Arts Department's production of "Mary Poppins" will take to the stage starting Jan. 30.

They will also host a special Supercalifragilistic Tea party in February where guests will get a chance to learn choreography from the original Broadway musical and meet characters from the play.

Henderson Pavilion to Host Laser Floyd Show

The classic rock 'n' roll of Pink Floyd and state-of-the art technology will combine for a stage show at the Henderson Pavilion.

LaserSpectacular will be presenting the "Music of Pink Floyd" at 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26. Tickets start at $15.

The show features a multi-media laser and light show with concert-quality sound. The show will also include a live performance by Brody Dolyniuk, the founder of classic rock cover band Yellow Brick Road.

Babyface Edmonds Makes Tour Stop in Henderson

The Henderson Pavilion will host one of the biggest names in music Friday.

Kenny "Babyface" Edmonds will perform at 8 p.m. The stop is part of his North American tour.

His new album of duets with Toni Braxton will be released in December. The lead single "Hurt You" is already on the Top 10 of the Billboard charts.

The 10-time Grammy Award winner will also perform hits from his past albums.

Diamond Rio Playing the Henderson Pavilion

A Grammy Award-winning country band Diamond Rio will be playing at the Henderson Pavilion Friday.

The band's first single "Meet in the Middle" peaked at number No. 1 on the Billboard charts in 1991.

They have also been inducted into country music's biggest stage, the Grand Ole Opry. They've also won CMA, ACM and Dove awards.

A local country music artist Ryan Whytle Maloney will open the show.

Henderson Team Part of Red Bull Flugtag

Henderson Team Part of Red Bull Flugtag

A team from Henderson will be part of this year's Red Bull Flugtag in Long Beach, California.

The event gives people a chance to create a flying machine that they will launch off a 28-foot high flight deck at Long Beach's Rainbow Harbor. This year's event will be Saturday, September 21.

The team from Henderson is known as We 'Can' Do It. The team is made up of one first timer and three veterans. When they first competed in 2010, the team walked away with 2nd place honors.

We 'Can' Do It plans to create a craft based around a P-51 Mustang. The project is going on in one of the team members' house in Henderson.

Besides Long Beach, this year's Flugtag will take place in Washington, D.C., Miami, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth.

Tickets On Sale Friday for September Concert

Tickets go on sale Friday for a concert at the Henderson Pavilion in September headlined by A Day to Remember.

The A Day to Remember's House Party Tour will be Monday, September 23. The bands Pierce The Veil and All Time Low are also scheduled to appear.

The band's latest album "What Separates Me From You" was a breakthrough that debuted at No. 11 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart.
