Special Olympics Nevada hosts a FLAG FOOTBALL CLINIC March 12

This Saturday, Special Olympics Nevada will be presenting a free flag football clinic, open to all Special Olympic Athletes and special needs individuals. The clinic is being put on with the help of Matt Petit, a local Eagle Scout Candidate, and will feature UNLV Football players as well as players from local high schools helping teach the basics of flag football. Coach Jim Fassel will be leading the clinic, which is set to conclude with a game, special needs athletes on teams with their non-disabled partners.

The clinic will run from 3pm until 5pm at Thurman White Middle School, 1661 Galleria Drive in Henderson, Nevada. for those interested in attending, please RSVP to Melva at 702-474-0690, ext 201, by this Friday, March 11th.

The second annual 2011 Soccer Champions Coaches’ Clinic will be held this week at the South Point Arena and South Point Hotel. at this event, couches have the opportunity to learn from a variety of coaches on all levels and earn their "E" certificates. "A" License coaches have the opportunity to earn two U.S. Soccer Continuing Education Units, as well as an AYSO Intermediate Coaching Diploma.A long list of soccer luminaries will be in attendance, including

Springs Preserve hosts Spring Plant Sale, Saturday, March 26

Unusual, desert adapted plants including a large selection of agaves and cacti will be among those offered for sale as the Springs Preserve hosts its annual Spring Plant Sale Saturday, March 26, from 8 a.m. - 2 p.m.

The sale will feature limited quantities of about 5,000 native and drought-tolerant plant species, including seasonal perennials. Plants will be sold in container sizes ranging from 2 inches up to 5 gallons. Springs Preserve garden staff experts will be on hand to answer customers’ questions about how to care for their new plants.

New at this year’s event will be a silent auction to bid for cactus and succulent container gardens, and “table top” garden displays also will be offered for sale.

Springs Preserve members will have exclusive access to the sale from 7-8 a.m. The sale will be open to the public from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Hash House A Go Go teams with St. Baldrick’s Foundation  for National Pancake Week

This week, March 7th- 14th, is National Pancake Week! Hash House a Go-Go is celebrating by offering 3 specialty types of pancakes, housemade Irish oatmeal, butterscotch chip and almond. A portion of the proceeds from the specialty pancakes will be going to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, which helps fund promising research into childhood cancers. The pancakes will be available at all 3 of the Hash House locations in the valley this week.

"Forever 2012: Fun, Fierce and Fabulous" Fashion Show March 5th

The National Charity League's annual fashion show took place this past Saturday, March 5th at the Galleria Mall in Kohl's Court. The theme was "Forever 2012: Fun, Fierce and Fabulous", and it raised funds for the The Public Education Foundation, and the Clark Country READS Book Depot. Girl Scout Summer Camp Registration is Now Open!

The Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada are now accepting summer camp registrations for the 2011 summer sessions, which begin as early as from June 19 to August 14th. Programs include activities such as hiking, biking, rock climbing, adventure courses, campfires, and more!

“Summer camp has been a tradition in the U.S. for more than 150 years. Girls spending time at Camp Foxtail this summer will find themselves on an adventure with fresh new challenges and pushing themselves to achieve them,” said Kelle Boteilho, Chief Operating Officer. “Girls will walk away with new friends and memories to last a lifetime.”
