New Stores, New Look for Galleria at Sunset

LAS VEGAS -- As the economy starts to bounce back, there are signs of better times at one local shopping mall.

The Galleria at Sunset in Henderson has been around for nearly 20 years, but is just now undergoing its first major renovation.

One of the new stores, which opened Thursday, is H&M, known around the world for offering trendy styles at affordable prices.

Francisco Pulgarin was the first in line to experience the brand new H&M store opening at the Galleria at Sunset.

"I have to be the first in line today," Pulgarin said. "I have been to other stores this is one I really like."

Pulgarin came all the way from Summerlin to a mall more popular among shoppers in Henderson.

The Galleria managers hope its first major renovations since it opened in 1996 will draw even more customers from around the valley.

"We want to create great atmosphere and update the center. It is only going to get better, very exciting changes," Heather Valera, the marketing manager at the mall, said.

Changes like new tile and paint along with an updated decor in the food court and the restrooms.

Natasha Smith runs Talulah Boutique. She moved the shop to the Galleria from the Fashion Show Mall earlier this year. She says with big changes at the Galleria, this is the place to do business.

"Being a local, I don't always go to the Strip," Smith said, "Every customer that I get, so ecstatic that we are here."

The shoppers were ecstatic as the doors opened for the first time at H&M.

"I think it will bring lots of business and help other stores too." shopper Kayti Natzke said.

"Right here at the Galleria, they are doing lots of great stuff will be hard to compete," Pulgaran said.

This from a shopper willing to drive all the way from Summerlin to spend money across town.

The recession did force a number of stores to shut down at the Galleria over the past few years, but things are looking up. Managers hope to open more businesses in 2014 including several new restaurants.
