The city of Henderson and the Southern Nevada Child Drowning Prevention Coalition will host a summer safety fair from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 30 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center and Aquatic Complex in time for the summer pool season.

The focus will be on preventing drowning by showing parents, guardians and day care providers about infant and child safety around water.

People will also get information about safety around the home, preventing accidents and how to respond in an emergency.

People who come to the safety fair will get free admission to the pool between 3 and 6 p.m. and free admission to the activity pool betwee 4 and 8 p.m. Children under the age of 8 must be supervised by an adult within arm's reach at all times.

The event is being held simultaneously at SNCDPC partner pools across the Las Vegas Valley.

Drowning is the second-leading cause of unintentional injury-related death in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
