City to replace 500 school zone signs
The City of Henderson plans to replace 500 school zone speed limit signs this month, asking drivers to observe posted limits when children are present instead of during specific times.
Work to change out the signs will begin at Taylor Elementary School, Brown Middle School and Basic High School in the east of Henderson and then continue to the west. The project is anticipated to be completed by December.
Research data indicates motorists drive slower through school zones marked by “When Children Are Present” signs, resulting in increased pedestrian safety in school zones. The change in signage will also match other jurisdictions, so that motorists will see uniformity in school zone speed limit signage across the valley.
"Fostering a safe community is one of our goals in Henderson," Mayor Andy Hafen said.
