Holiday Hours and Closures for Memorial Day

 

Hours will vary throughout Henderson’s municipal and recreational facilities on Memorial Day.

Henderson City Hall, Henderson Convention Center and Henderson Municipal Court will be closed. Police, fire and emergency services will work regular schedules.

Holiday hours and closures of recreation facilities are as follows:

  • Black Mountain Recreation Center, 5 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve, 6 a.m. – 2 p.m.
  • Henderson Multigenerational Center, 5 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Heritage Park Senior Facility, 5 a.m. – 6 p.m.
  • Sports Office, 8 a.m. – 6 p.m.

World's Largest Swimming Lesson Hopes to Break World Record

 

As the temperature heats up in southern Nevada, more children will head to the pool and city officials want them to be prepared.

The city of Henderson is taking part in the World’s Largest Swimming Lesson at 8 a.m. Tuesday, June 18 at all of its pools. The World’s Largest Swimming Lesson is a worldwide event designed to highlight the importance of children’s swimming lessons.

The event also marks an annual attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest swimming lesson. The current record was set during the 2012 World’s Largest Swimming Lesson with 24,873 participants representing 15 countries. This year, more than 25,000 children on five continents are expected to participate.

All city pools will offer a free swimming lesson to any child who visits on the day of the event. Pools include:

A series of setbacks have forced developers to push back the opening day for Henderson's water park.

Families looking forward to splashing around Henderson's Cowabunga Bay Water Park this summer will have to wait. The water park won't open until Spring 2014.

BMX Star Laguna to Appear at Bike Swap Event

BMX Star Laguna to Appear at Bike Swap Event

 

Henderson’s bike swap event will feature a special guest this year: local professional BMX rider Ricardo Laguna.

Laguna will appear at the city’s inaugural Bicycle Swap & Rally, set for 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at Cornerstone Park, 1600 Wigwam Parkway. Admission is free.

Laguna will make an appearance at 12:30 p.m. to meet and greet participants and to discuss bike safety, including the importance of wearing a helmet. He also will talk about becoming a BMX rider and discuss his best tricks.

On the BMX circuit since 2003, Laguna has won many international BMX events around the world. He also has an MTV reality show “The Ricardo Laguna Project.”
