Rugby Team Visits Local School | Sports
Members of the USA Eagles rugby team visited an elementary school Tuesday as part of the Adopt-a-Country program.
The team visited Glen Taylor Elementary School in Henderson and held a pep rally. The Adopt-a-Country program pairs sixteen schools in Clark County with one of the sixteen countries represented by teams in the USA Sevens International Rugby Tournament being held in Las Vegas this weekend.
The students learn about their assigned countries’ culture, language, history and geography.
The program hopes to teach kids about the world and about the sport of rugby.
“Rugby is not that big in America right now. So, anything we can do to give back to the game. I know if I was in grammar school, and I had international rugby events like this, I would relish the opportunity to have some of the national team members come expose me to the sport,” player Colin Hawley said.
The tournament starts Friday at Sam Boyd Stadium.
