The Grammy Foundation is singing the praises of music programs at two Clark County School District schools. The two schools have been named Grammy Signature Gold Schools.

Green Valley High School and Las Vegas Academy were selected for the honor out of more than 20,000 applicants. The panel of judges included top music educators and music professionals.  They gave out the honor based on recording of past concerts and details of their programs.

With this recent recognition, Las Vegas Academy now has 10 academic Grammys, which is more than any other in the entire country. While the school is used to national recognition, the chair of the music department says local recognition is harder to find.

“We have been down here for almost 20 years in downtown Las Vegas. The community still does not seem to know that much about our school. We have something here almost every night of the week," Bill Swick, Las Vegas Academy music department chair, said.

Green Valley High School says its honor started with a vision of emphasizing the importance of the arts. The band director credits the Grammy honor to teachers, administrators, parents and students working together towards a quality program.

Green Valley High School and Las Vegas Academy were two of just 18 schools in the entire country honored by the Grammy Foundation. They will both receive $5,000 to grow their music programs.
