Food For Health and Soul Promotes Better Nutrition

HENDERSON, Nev. -- A free program in Henderson is helping put residents on the road to a healthier lifestyle.

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department along with the University of Nevada Cooperative Extension is offering Food For Health and Soul. The free program will be held on Saturdays beginning September 11 through October 16 at the Downtown Recreation Center.

Enrollment is open to adults 18 years or older and while it's free, registration is required. The nutrition education program will teach people how to modify their favorite recipes by decreasing sugar, fat, salt, sodium and increasing fiber-rich foods during preparation.

Tanya Myers, Recreation Services supervisor says, "Most people grew up eating family recipes that were delicious, but probably high in fat and sodium. This program makes it possible to modify those family favorites to be healthier and more nutritious."

To register for the class call 267-4040 or go to the City of Henderson's website.
