HENDERSON, Nev. -- It is now mandatory for dogs and cats to be sterilized in the City of Henderson. Tuesday night, the City Council approved the ordinance.

Henderson joins Las Vegas, North Las Vegas, Mesquite and unincorporated Clark County in the move. The new ordinance will require dogs and cats older than four months be sterilized in hopes of reducing the number of strays at local shelters.

Henderson residents will have 120 days to get their animals spayed or neutered.

For residents who are concerned about the cost of the procedure, there are three place that offer low cost options: Spay & Neuter Center of Southern NevadaLas Vegas Humane Society and Heaven Can Wait.
