Investigators Begin Work on Huge Henderson Fire
News

HENDERSON, Nev. -- The fire is out, but the cleanup continues after a massive blaze in an industrial area of Henderson on Tuesday.

Right now, damage estimates are running over $3 million.

Flames and plumes of black smoke could be seen for miles after the fire broke out at a pallet company near Boulder Highway and Barrett. The fire spread very quickly because of an abundant supply of fuel. The fire destroyed the business and damaged others nearby.

"There's a pet cremation place that suffered minor damages, a medical supply company that suffered significant damages and some buildings on this side as well," said Deputy Chief Steve Goble with Henderson Fire Department.

Fire crews were out all night monitoring hot spots and putting water on the blaze. Investigators are now trying to figure out what caused the massive four alarm fire.

The fire started at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday night and burned for hours before crews were finally able to get a handle on it.

Nearby businesses were evacuated as a safety precaution.

"I was thinking because the winds were kicking, I was scared. I hoped, praying to God, I hoped (the flames) don't come here in my parking lot -- in my business," said 7-Eleven owner Ashwin Shah.

Along with the 7-Eleven, Huey's Mart and a nearby Holiday Inn were evacuated because of smoke.

The cause of fire has not been determined.
