Remodeled Upscale Movie Theater Opens Friday


A long-shuttered movie theater in Green Valley makes a triumphant return Friday as a luxury spot featuring reclining seats and alcohol service.

Galaxy Green Valley Luxury+ Theatre, located in the Green Valley Town Center shopping center at 4500 E. Sunset Rd., will feature  eight screens and luxury amenities including beer on tap and wine service, cushioned reclining seats with powered footrests and extra-wide rows. Reserved seating can be purchased online at galaxytheatres.com, via Galaxy Theatres iPhone and Android app or in-person at the box office. For show times, call 442-0244.

The theater originally closed in 2005 as the entire shopping complex faltered, leaving only Barley’s Casino in the west end of the large area.

Bakery Prepares Dozens of Cakes and Cookies for Valentine's Day


One of the oldest bakeries in southern Nevada had a busy day Thursday, filling orders for Valentine's Day.

Freed's Bakery says it will send out more than 150 orders Thursday. It has prepared 500 chocolate-dipped strawberries, nearly 50 candy-heart themed cakes and hundreds of heart-shaped cookies for the day dedicated to love.

The bakery extended its hours to accommodate the increase in customer demand.

A company that recently relocated some of its manufacturing to a plant in Henderson is reporting a record-breaking 2012.

Spreadshirt sells T-shirts and other goods online. It also allows people to create and share their own T-shirts.

The company reported Wednesday that it made more than $83.7 million globally last year and $31.4 million of it was in North America. That translates into a 58 percent growth rate for the U.S. and a 32 percent global revenue growth.

According to the company, opening the second production facility in Henderson helped the company better meet customer demand.

Zappos again made the grade as one of the best places in the country to work.

In Fortune Magazine’s Best 100 Companies to Work For, Zappos came in at no. 31. That’s down 20 spots from last year.

Fortune’s entry on Zappos reads:

“The online retailer is moving to a big new headquarters in downtown Las Vegas this fall -- CEO Tony Hsieh is spending $350 million to develop the entire neighborhood so employees will have access to great places to live and socialize too.”

Yoga Studio Celebrates Anniversary with Free Classes


Body Heat Hot Pilates & Yoga will celebrate its one-year anniversary with complimentary Pilates and yoga classes all day Wednesday.

Don’t throw away that Halloween pumpkin just yet: RC Farms will gladly turn it into pig food.

RC Farms, a North Las Vegas pig farm, again will collect used pumpkins at locations throughout southern Nevada through Monday. If you would prefer to feed a pig yourself, you can bring your pumpkin to RC Farms during business hours from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. until Monday. The farm is located in North Las Vegas at the corner of North 5th Street and Ann Road.

Last year, the effort resulted in more than 10 tons of donated pumpkins. Farm owner Bob Combs hopes to bring in 15 tons this year.
