American Education Week Kicks Off

The Clark County School District kicked off American Education Week Monday with a prep rally at Liberty High School.

The pep rally featured 137 first-grade students from Steven Schorr Elementary School. The first graders got a chance to see what high school is like and interact with Liberty students.

The idea is to inspire Schorr students to stay in school and learn the importance of education.

"When you give children something that makes them feel important and understand how important education is, when you pull it together, you get a better student," Steve Schorr, the school's namesake, said.

The festivities continue Tuesday at Clark High School where 39 students will be honored for being National Merit Scholarship semifinalists.
