Give Your Holiday Tree Another Round Through Recycling

You might only have put up your tree last weekend, but Henderson officials want you to know what you can do with it once the holidays are over.

The city of Henderson wants people to consider recycling trees through its free holiday tree recycling program.

Holiday trees can be dropped off during regular park hours Dec. 26, 2012, through Jan. 17, 2013, at seven locations:

  • Acacia Park, 50 Casa Del Fuego St.
  • Anthem Hills Park, 2256 N. Reunion Dr.
  • Arroyo Grande Sports Complex, 298 Arroyo Grande Blvd.
  • Mission Hills Park, 551 E. Mission Dr.
  • Morrell Park, 500 Harris St.
  • Pecos Legacy Park, 150 Pecos Rd.
  • Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, 1575 Galleria Dr.

All non-organic material must first be removed from trees, including lights, ornaments, wires, tinsel, and nails. These items cannot be recycled and could damage chipping equipment. Note that flocked trees cannot be recycled.

The Parks and Recreation Department will chip the trees into mulch for use in parks and landscaping around Henderson municipal buildings. Free mulch will also be made available from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. Jan. 5, 2013, at Pecos Legacy Park and Jan. 12, 2013, at Acacia Demonstration Gardens.
