Go Underwater for Easter Eggs in Pool Hunt


Easter egg hunts are a holiday tradition. Underwater easter egg hunts, however, throw tradition a curve.

The City of Henderson Parks and Recreation Department is hosting its annual Egg Dive, an all-ages underwater egg hunt, from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday, April 7 at Whitney Ranch Activity Pool, 1575 B Galleria Dr.

Spots can be reserved online at cityofhenderson.com/parks (activity 136700-00) or at any City of Henderson recreation center or indoor pool. Participation is $2-$3 per person.

Dozens of colorful eggs will be hiding along the bottom of the pool. The swimmer who finds the most in each age group wins a prize. Each swimmer should bring a basket to hold all of his or her eggs.

Watch your speed on I-15 in the Strip corridor Thursday.

Metro and other local law enforcement agencies will be saturating the area in advance of expected large crowds for NASCAR and Mountain West basketball this weekend.

Metro will be focusing its efforts in the area of I-15 between Tropicana and St. Rose Parkway from 2 p.m. Thursday to 2 a.m. Friday. Officers will be directed to enforce seat belt and cell phone violations.

Officers from the Nevada Highway Patrol, North Las Vegas Police Department, Henderson Police Department, Boulder City Police Department, Mesquite Police Department and Lincoln County Sherriff’s Office are expected to participate in this event with Metro.

Prom Dresses Being Collected at Orthodontist Office


A local orthodontist is joining the local effort to put disadvantaged young ladies in prom dresses.

Chenin Orthodontics, 10730 South Eastern Avenue, Suite 100 in Henderson, will be accepting gently worn evening gowns and accessories from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, through March 28.

In conjunction with the Clark County School District, Chenin Orthodontics will donate these gowns and accessories to students throughout area high schools through I HOPE (Homeless Outreach Program for Education.)

Henderson Looking for Best Irish Stew in Southern Nevada


The city of Henderson is looking for contestants for the inaugural Irish Stew Cook Off. The cook off will be part of the Southern Nevada Sons of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival.

The St. Jude’s Women’s Auxiliary will host the event. The cook off is a fundraiser for the charity. The money raised will go to the charities sponsored by St. Jude’s Women’s Auxiliary, including Positive Kids and Catholic Charities Childhood Cancer.

The event will be held Sunday, March 18 at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street. The deadline for applications to be part of the cook off is Saturday, March 10. The entry fee is $50. The Southern Nevada Sons of Erin St. Patrick’s Day Parade & Festival is one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in the country. Besides the cook off, this year’s celebration will include a parade, carnival, car show and live entertainment.
