HENDERSON, Nev. (AP) -- Authorities say one person is dead after a fire in an apartment complex in Henderson.

City spokeswoman Kathleen Richards says firefighters were called about 8:40 a.m. Tuesday to the Sunset Hills apartments on Blue Grass Lane, near the intersection of Eastern Avenue and Windmill Parkway.

Firefighters reported smoke coming from a second-story window and tried to get in through the door, but saw the floor was damaged and went in through the window instead.

Richards says the fire was limited to a space between the first- and second-floor units. Seven units were impacted by the fire.

Crews who were investigating found one person dead in the second-floor unit. The person's name, gender and age haven't yet been released.

Nobody else was injured in the incident. The American Red Cross is assisting residents to make sure they have shelter, food and clothing.

Investigators are looking into the cause of the fire.
