Police: Motorcyclist speeding before deadly crash
News

LAS VEGAS -- Metro Police investigated a deadly motorcycle crash early Sunday morning at the intersection of E. Pebble Road and S. Haviland Road.

Metro said witnesses told them that around 3:30 a.m. a 2013 Honda CBR was going at a high rate of speed on East Pebble Road when the motorcyclist, 26-year-old Michael Mattingly of Las Vegas, lost control.

Officers said the Mattingly overturned and slid off the roadway over the southeast corner of the intersection. This caused him and the motorcycle to continue southeast across the sidewalk/ landscape before hitting a tree and a block wall.

Traffic investigators said the impact with the tree and wall redirected the Mattingly and his bike to the eastbound travel lanes on E. Pebble Road where the motorcycle and operator slid to a stop.

The 26-year-old was pronounced dead on scene.

This was the 68th traffic related accident in Metro's jurisdiction for 2014.
