Overnight Closure on Major Henderson Road Tonight
Overnight Closure on Major Henderson Road Tonight

Drivers who use St. Rose Parkway to zip across Henderson will need to find another route tonight and possibly tomorrow night as well.

Beginning at 9 p.m. Tuesday evening, eastbound St. Rose Parkway between Eastern Avenue and Coronado Center Drive will be closed to all traffic. Motorists traveling eastbound on St. Rose Parkway will be detoured at Eastern Avenue to Coronado Center Drive. Eastbound lanes will open by 5 a.m. Wednesday morning.

The closure is due to construction of the pedestrian bridge that connects the Amargosa Trail across St. Rose Parkway. The contractor will be placing a 99-foot-long section of steel bridge structure about 18 feet above the roadway.

If there is enough time remaining Tuesday night, westbound St. Rose Parkway will then be closed to all traffic while the contractor places a second 99-foot-long section of bridge. If it is not possible to complete the work before 5 a.m. Wednesday morning, the westbound lanes will be closed Wednesday overnight beginning at 9 p.m.

The Amargosa Pedestrian Bridge is part of the Amargosa Trail that starts at Mission Drive west of Horizon Ridge Parkway and connects to the Clark County Trail System west of Eastern Avenue. Trail connectivity is one of the attributes that Henderson residents have told the city they value most, and this pedestrian bridge across St. Rose Parkway (also known as state highway 146) is a key piece in the Amargosa Trail, which runs adjacent to many Henderson neighborhoods.

The construction cost for the project is $1,686,400 and is funded through the Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act. The project is scheduled for completion in early September.
